Mayday to Hit Chicago’s Schubas Tavern in July

Though the calendar has flipped to July, Mayday plays any date of the year. That is when its talented members aren’t working on other projects. The Mayday tour comes through Chicago’s Schubas Tavern on July 15.

Mayday guitarist and band leader Ted Steven has been a busy man. As former member for band Lullaby for the Working Class, current member of Saddle Creek band Cursive, and current member of Saddle Creek band Mayday, it seems Ted Stevens prefers to busy himself with music instead of taking time off.

Along with Stevens, Tiffany Kowalski, Dan McCarthy, and Pat Oakes round out the Mayday lineup, an impressive group of musicians of which released Mayday’s third full-length album “Bushido Karaoke” on June 21.

The album, a collection of fourteen eclectic rock tracks, is sure to win over critics across the nation. With the album’s opener “Pelf Help” and its “You’re much more fun when you were poor” mainline, Mayday gets the “Bushido Karaoke” ball rolling. An almost Elvis-like “Booze & Pills” brings rock fans back to the 50s while the anthem “I’m Not Afraid to Die” is sure to get live crowds bopping.

A twangy cover of INXS’ “Old World New World” and the blues-driven “Dave D. Blues (How to Make it Sting Like a Career)” shine, while the solemn, country-themed “Billy Boy Blues (Day of the Dead Blues)” calms the tempo before “Song of the Scaffold” rounds out the set.
