Mute Math Adds Chicago Headlining Gig

By Randy J. Klodz

New Orleans-based rock band Mute Math is prepared to once again display its catchy style with a headlining tour that hits Chicago’s House of Blues on Oct. 9.

Mute Math—which includes Paul Meany (vocals, keyboards), Greg Hill (guitar), Roy Mitchell-Cardenas (bass) and Darren King (drums)—is on tour in support of the band’s latest, self-titled effort, which hit stores last Fall.

The band has earned its touring stripes as support for such popular acts as Mat Kearney and The Fray and a coveted spot on this year’s Bonnaroo Music Festival as well as previous spots on Lollapalooza and the Vans Warped Tour.

Mute Math now takes its show on the road as a headlining act, and the band’s growing fan base—which has grown leaps and bounds through the Web—can’t be happier.

The band’s sound? A lyric from the hit “Typical” might sum it up best: “Can I break the spell of the typical.” With plenty of alternative-rock leanings, indie-pop grooves and a catchy, often somewhat bouncy background, Mute Math strays from the usual inside-the-box rock.

Singles such as “Control,” “Noticed,” and the aforementioned “Typical” give the album a solid core--not to mention plenty of commercial appeal.

Other tracks like “Chaos” the mellow, piano-driven “Obsolete” and the 7-minute “Stall Out” round out a solid album worthy of the commercial praise it has already received.

House of Blues is at 329 N. Dearborn St. Tickets for this all-ages show are listed for $13 each with showtime slated for 6 p.m. For more on Mute Math log on to www.mutemath.com.
