Phoenix Brings Its Pop Warmth From France

With a name like Phoenix, many would assume the band hails from the great state of Arizona, but that’s not the case with this French quartet. Gathered near the great city of Paris, Phoenix is ready to take the United States by storm. The band’s recent tour brings them to Chicago’s Double Door on July 28.

Phoenix--which includes Thomas Mars (vocals), Laurent Brancowitz and Christian Mazzalai (guitars) and Deck D’Arcy (bass)--is on tour in support of the band’s latest album “It’s Never Been Like That,” which hit stores May 23.

The distinguishable pop sound of Phoenix is displayed throughout the coarse of “It’s Never Been Like That,” the band’s third release.
With its “Shifty eyes, pay attention” refrain, “Rally” will get the motor running of fans nationwide. Sure this is pop, but this isn’t grandma’s boring pop.

The song “Long Distance Call” also glistens. Though the band’s following currently resides over seas, it won’t be long before Phoenix exudes a sturdy set of fans across the nation.

Double Door is at 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. Bands such as The Dirty Things and French Kicks are also scheduled to perform. Tickets for this 21+ show are listed for $5 each with showtime slated for 9 p.m. For more on Phoenix log on to www.wearephoenix.com.
