Underoath Swears to Thrill Chicago

Fresh off a successful stint on the inaugural Taste of Chaos tour and before
going full throttle into this summer’s Vans Warped Tour, emotive rockers
Underoath will hit the road on the “Totally Badical Tour,” the band’s
own headlining tour. Underoath’s tour will hit Chicago’s House of
Blues on April 19.
Underoath--which includes Spencer Chamberlain (vocals), Timothy McTague and
James Smith (guitars), Grant Brandell (bass), Christopher Dudley (keys) and
Aaron Gillespie (drums, vocals)--hails from Tampa, Fla., while most bands in
the emotive rock genre call Southern California home. To Underoath, the difference
in geography is just a matter of regional demographics.
“Southern California, and like the tri-state area, are pretty much the
thriving [punk-rock] scene areas in the United States, so obviously there are
a lot of kids and a lot of shows there, so bands form there a lot,” said
Underoath bassist Grant Brandell.
“You can definitely tell, even when we were a smaller band going on tour,
the shows would draw like 150 kids a night [in other cities], and then we’d
go [to Southern California] and there would be 500 kids a night,” Brandell
said.
And Underoath is giving emotive rock fans exactly what they desire. Underoath’s
latest album, 2004’s “They’re Only Chasing Safety,”
offers spastic guitars and the brash vocals of Spencer Chamberlain. The album’s
tracks “I Don’t Feel Very Respective Today,” “It’s
Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door,” and “Reinventing
Your Exit,” pack a big wallop fans across the country are sure to eat
up.
House of Blues is at 329 N. Dearborn St. Tickets for this all-ages show are
